RESUMO: A diversidade de ácaros edáficos em ambientes naturais brasileiros é pouco conhecida, especialmente no bioma Pampa na região sul do Brasil. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a diversidade e abundância da fauna edáfica de ácaros mesostigmatídeos no bioma Pampa, do sul do Brasil. Coletas de solo foram realizadas no município de Aceguá, em 2012 e 2013. Ácaros foram extraídos das amostras com o uso de funis de Berlese-Tullgren modificados. No total, 1900 ácaros mesostigmatídeos foram coletados, representando 44 espécies de 23 gêneros de 10 famílias. As famílias mais abundantes foram Rhodacaridae, Ologamasidae e Laelapidae, nesta ordem, com 903, 578 e 214 espécimes, correspondendo respectivamente a 47,5, 30,4 e 11,3% dos mesostigmatídeos coletados. Laelapidae foi a família mais diversa, sendo representada por 22 espécies. O restante das famílias foi representado por 1 - 5 espécies. Gaeolaelaps (Laelapidae) foi o gênero mais diverso, com 14 espécies. Rhodacaridae foi representada por uma única espécie, Binodacarus aceguaensis Duarte, Castilho, Cunha & Moraes, correspondendo a 47,5% dos mesostigmatídeos. Ologamasidae foi representado por quatro espécies, com Neogamasellevans sp. correspondendo a segunda espécie mais abundante, representando 27,5% dos mesostigmatídeos encontrados. Mais estudos são necessários para a identificação destes ácaros a nível de espécie, bem como para avaliar o potencial de uso destes no controle biológico aplicado.

ABSTRACT: The diversity of edaphic mites in Brazilian natural environments is little known, especially in the Pampa biome, in southern region of Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the diversity and abundance of edaphic fauna of mesostigmatid mites in a region of the Pampa biome of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Soil samples were collected in the municipality of Aceguá, in 2012 and 2013. Mites were extracted using Berlese-Tullgren modified funnels. In total, 1900 mesostigmatid mites were collected, representing 44 species from 23 genera and 10 families. The most abundant families were Rhodacaridae, Ologamasidae and Laelapidae, with respectively 903, 578 and 214 specimens, corresponding respectively to 47.5, 30.4 and 11.3% of the Mesostigmata collected. Laelapidae was the most diverse family, being represented by 22 species. The remaining families were each represented by 1-5 species. Gaeolaelaps (Laelapidae) was the most diverse genus, with 14 species. Rhodacaridae was represented by a single species, Binodacarus aceguaensis Duarte, Castilho, Cunha & Moraes, representing 47.5% of the mesostigmatids. Ologamasidae was represented by four species, with Neogamasellevans sp. corresponding to the second most abundant species, representing 27.5% of the mesostigmatids. Further analysis of the data, in terms of mite identification to species level and the potential use of the mites collected for applied biological control are needed.

RESUMO Muitas espécies de nematoides entomopatogênicos apresentam diferenças no modo de busca pelo seu hospedeiro, podendo ser consideradas como "ambusher" ou "cruiser". Essas diferenças podem depender de como esses nematoides detectam os sinais voláteis utilizados como dicas para o forrageamento. Objetivou-se avaliar a resposta locomotora de Heterorhabditis amazonensis RSC5 à liberação de compostos provenientes de exsudatos radiculares de diferentes plantas, ao estímulo produzido pela presença do inseto ou à atividade alimentar do inseto na planta. Foram montadas arenas com substrato ágar-água, contendo exsudatos radiculares de plântulas de milho, feijoeiro, soja, pepino, alho e tomateiro, para verificação de possível escolha por H. amazonensis, bem como em areia contendo, além do exsudato radicular das plântulas, tratamentos com Spodoptera frugiperda, plântula de alho e plântula de alho juntamente com S. frugiperda. A espécie H. amazonensis foi atraída pelas substâncias químicas voláteis emitidas por todos os exsudatos radiculares testados, principalmente aquele obtido da plântula de alho. No entanto, a maior atração ocorreu quando exposta ao tratamento com plântula de alho associada a S. frugiperda, o que evidencia que H. amazonensis se beneficia da associação entre a presença do inseto e os compostos químicos voláteis produzidos pela planta, quando atacada por ele.

ABSTRACT Several species of entomopathogenic nematodes have different host-seeking methods, and could be considered as "ambusher" or "cruiser". These differences may depend on how the nematodes detect the volatile signals used as cues for foraging. This study aimed to evaluate the locomotor response of Heterorhabditis amazonensis RSC5 to the compounds from root exudates of different plants, as well as to stimulants produced by the presence of insects or to the feeding activity of insects on plants. Arenas with agar-water substrates, containing root exudates from corn, bean, soybean, cucumber, garlic and tomato seedlings, were assembled to determine the substrates possibly preferred by H. amazonensis.Arenas with sand were also constructed to include, besides the seedling root exudates, treatments containing Spodoptera frugiperda, garlic seedlings and S. frugiperda feeding on garlic seedlings. The H. amazonensis species was attracted to the volatile chemicals emitted by all the root exudates tested, especially the exudate from garlic seedlings. However, it showed the greatest attraction to the combination of garlic seedlings and S. frugiperda, indicating that the search of H. amazonensis for its host is enhanced by the association between the insect and the volatile chemical compounds produced by plants, when attacked by insects.

O aumento no plantio do milho "safrinha" e o uso do sistema de plantio direto favorecem o desenvolvimento de Spodoptera frugiperda, principal praga da cultura. Dessa forma, os objetivos deste trabalho foram selecionar nematoides entomopatogênicos, de acordo com a mortalidade causada sobre S. frugiperda, adequar as concentrações em laboratório e avaliar a ação desses organismos em condições de casa-de-vegetação. Foram testadas 17 populações de nematoides nas concentrações de 100, 250 e 500 juvenis infectantes (JI) lagarta-1. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos ao teste de regressão polinomial. Em casa-de-vegetação, a semeadura do milho foi realizada em vasos de plástico contendo solo, palhada de milho e água. Após sete dias, foram adicionados Steinernema arenarium ou Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02 e as lagartas (40 lagartas, uma lagarta/repetição). Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste de médias Scott-Knott (P<0,05). Nos testes de laboratório, S. arenarium e Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02 causaram mortalidade de 85 e 90%, respectivamente, sendo selecionados para o teste de concentrações. Foram testadas as concentrações de 150, 200, 250, 300 e 350JI lagarta-1. Na concentração de 200JI lagarta-1, S. arenarium e Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02 causaram 100 e 97,6% de mortalidade, respectivamente, e em casa-de-vegetação causaram 77,5 e 87,5%, respectivamente, diferindo da testemunha (7,5%).

The increased corn planting grown in the late season crop and the use of a notillage planting system benefits the development of Spodoptera frugiperda, the main pest of corn crop. Thus, this study aimed to select entomopathogenic nematodes based on the mortality of S. frugiperda, and to adjust the nematode concentrations in the laboratory and evaluate the action of these organisms in greenhouse conditions. Seventeen nematode populations were tested at concentrations of 100, 250, and 500 infective juveniles (IJ)/larvae. The obtained data were submitted to the polynomial regression test. In the greenhouse, corn sowing was performed in plastic buckets with soil, corn straw, and water. After 7 days, Steinernema arenarium or Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02, and the larvae were added (40 larvae, one larvae/repetition). The data were submitted to the variance analysis and the Scott-Knott test (P<0.05). In the laboratory, tests with S. arenarium and Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02 caused mortality of 85 and 90%, respectively, being selected for the concentrations test. Concentrations of 150, 200, 250, 300, and 350IJ larvae-1 were tested. At a concentration of 200IJ larvae-1, S. arenarium and Heterorhabditis sp. RSC02 caused 100 and 97.6% mortality in laboratory, respectively, and in the greenhouse caused 77.5 and 87.5% mortality, respectively, when compared to the control (7.5%).

Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de isolar e identificar bactérias presentes nos solos utilizados como camada de cobertura do cultivo de Agaricus blazei Murril. Foi avaliada a eficiência da desinfestação com vapor d'água e formol nos solos de cobertura. O tratamento com formol apresentou maior redução no número de bactérias na terra de barranco (Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico) e solo de pastagens (Latossolo Amarelo distrófico), enquanto que no solo hidromórfico, oriundo de várzea (Gleissolo Melânico), nenhum dos tratamentos foi eficiente para reduzir a comunidade microbiana. Foram identificadas bactérias do gênero Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Enterobacter e Shigella, dentre outras, denotando que os tratamentos de desinfestação não eliminam bactérias potencialmente benéficas, mas também não eliminam bactérias potencialmente patogênicas. Além disso, os tratamentos de desinfestação também não afetaram a produtividade do cogumelo A. blazei nas condições testadas.

The objective of this work was to quantify and to isolate the bacteria present in casing layer used for the cultivation of the Agaricus blazei Murril. It was evaluated the efficiency of the steam and formaldehyde disinfestation in the casing layer. The formaldehyde disinfestation showed a reduction of the bacteria population on the ravine soils (distroferric Red Latosol) and grazing land soil (distrofic Yellow Latosol), while in the hydromorphic soil coming from lowland (Melanic G]/leysol) none of the treatments used were efficient to reduce the bacteria population. Bacteria of the genera Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Enterobacter, Shigella, among others, were identified in all treatments analysed. It was observed that the disinfestation treatments did not eliminate neither potentially beneficial bacteria nor pathogenic bacteria. There was no significant effect of the disinfestation treatments on productivity of A. blazei mushroom. Moreover, the disinfestation treatments did not affect the productivity of the A. blazei in the studied conditions.
